High Holidays 2024/5785
Welcome to the landing page for everything High Holidays at Middlebury College and the Havurah of Addison County. This page is where you will find what you need for a reflective, connected, and joyous High Holiday season.
Rabbi Danielle Stillman and alumnus cantor Aaron Mendelsohn ‘95 are excited to be leading in-person services together this year. We send our best wishes for a sweet and healthy new year!
The Chapel has a new hearing assist system. You will need to download an app to your phone, and then you can use a QR code on the app to bring you right to the Middlebury Chapel location. You will also need to bring your own earphones for your phone.
Students, please register for Rosh Hashanah Dinner and the Break-the-Fast meal using the buttons within the schedule.
Live Streaming on Zoom
Those who cannot attend in person are warmly invited to join us on Zoom by clicking the button below. This link should work for all services. Although we have sometimes had challenges livestreaming from the Chapel, we hope it will work smoothly this year. Please be patient!

Yizkor - Memorial Service
Anyone is welcome to Yizkor, whether you are remembering someone specific this year, or would just like to take a moment to acknowledge the enormous loss of life that has occurred in recent years due to pandemic illness, war and conflict. We encourage all to stay for this short section of the larger service.
Meet at ADK Circle to walk to the Knoll
Reflective Nature Walk to the Knoll
Led by Zippy Yellin ‘27.5, we will take a quiet walk to The Knoll, pausing along the way for reflection and noticing. At the Knoll we will have the opportunity to use the special spaces there—the garden, the outdoor classroom, and the Labyrinth, to consider how we are moving into the new year and what we are leaving behind. This is a great alternative or additional way to connect to Yom Kippur.
If the weather is iffy check back here to see if the walk is still on.
College Chapel
Minchah – Afternoon Service, and Ne’ilah – Concluding Services
For the afternoon service we read from the Torah and hear the story of Jonah. This is followed by Ne’ilah, “the closing of the gates.” This is our last opportunity on Yom Kippur to turn toward a new approach for the new year.
