Muslim Life in Vermont

Vermont is a home to a growing and diverse Muslim community. The Islamic Society of Vermont provides a variety of religious services for the larger Muslim community in Burlington and beyond. A variety of Halal food options are also available in many restaurants in Burlington for you to explore.

Prayer Spaces and Jummah

Individual or smaller congregational prayers take place on campus in the the Islamic Prayer Room in Forest Hall, as well as the meditation area of the Davis Library on the second floor. Larger congregational prayers on Fridays (Jummah) take place in the Crest Room in McCullough Hall.

Dining

Halal dining (meat) is available in all dining halls at Middlebury College (Ross, Proctor & Atwater halls) whose menus are available and updated regularly. The Grille (McCullough Hall) also regularly serves halal chicken. Contact each dining hall directors and chefs for the latest updates.

Ramadan: Suhoor (pre-dawn meals) as well as dinner meals that coincide with Iftar time are available for fasting Muslim students throughout the month of Ramadan. Dining staff and Muslim Life representatives will continue to work with one another and adjust the calendars and timetables to meet the month of Ramadan accordingly. Suhoor items are provided by our dining halls and usually stored in the Islamic Prayer room in Forest Hall or the Anderson Freeman Center (AFC) for students with card access. To gain access, please contact Chaplain Zahra Moeini at zmoeini@middlebury.edu. The MSA and Scott Center Muslim Chaplaincy also sponsor many weekend communal iftars during Ramadan, and all are invited to join!
