50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion and Conference

October 8–11, 2026, Bread Loaf Campus

Join us for the Middlebury College Greenberg-Starr Department of Chinese 50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion and Conference.

Regardless of your college major or current language proficiency, if you studied Chinese during the academic year with the Middlebury College Chinese department, you are invited!

Registration

• Register by September 1 at a reduced cost made possible with funding from the Chinese Department.
• The registration deadline is September 24.

Thursday–Sunday packages include: three nights at Bread Loaf; breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday and Saturday; and breakfast and lunch on Sunday (Thursday meals are not included).

Friday–Sunday packages include two nights at Bread Loaf; dinner Friday; breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday; and breakfast and lunch on Sunday.

Cancellation

• Full refunds available through September 1.
• Refunds minus a 10% charge available September 2 to 24.
• After September 24, refunds, minus a 10% charge, only available for health reasons.

• Dinner on your own (no meals served today)

Friday, October 9

• Breakfast
• Two alumni panels with open discussion
• Luncheon 
• 1:00–11:00 pm: Check-in, Bread Loaf Inn front desk
• Free time
• 4:15 pm: Alumni China Update panel, Dana Auditorium
• 6:45 pm: Dinner, Bread Loaf Inn
• Informal socializing in the evening

Saturday, October 10

• Breakfast
• Alumni Panels with open discussion
• Luncheon
• Reception and gala dinner
• Informal socializing in the evening

Sunday, October 11

• Light breakfast followed by Alumni panels and open discussion
• Lunch to go or taken in the Bread Loaf Inn Dining Room
• 1:00–3:00 pm: Open House at Professor Berninghausen’s home in Cornwall

Statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice

The faculty and staff of the Greenberg-Starr Department of Chinese Language and Literature condemn the recent and ongoing violence and harassment directed at Chinese, Chinese Americans, Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders. As a department we exist to make Chinese voices heard. We exist to create a welcoming and supportive home for each and every one of our students. We assert that Black Lives Matter, and we stand with Middlebury students, administrators, faculty, and staff who are combatting all forms of racial and gender injustice, discrimination, and violence. As teachers, scholars, and members of the Middlebury community, we pledge to continue to learn, grow, and do everything we can to help advance the College’s commitment to creating a diverse, welcoming community with full and equal participation for all individuals and groups. We will endeavor to do more to educate ourselves and our students about the ethnic and cultural diversity within China and do more to expose students to more of the Sinophone world. We invite our students to share their ideas with us as to how we can best promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the life and work of the Chinese Department.
