Larrabee Point Orchard, now Champlain Orchards, is one of the oldest continuously operated orchards in Vermont. Wesley and Virginia Larrabee retired several years ago and none of their children were interested in owning the farm.  The entire family has a deep respect for the land and they were intent on passing it on to someone who will carry on their meticulous stewardship.  Fortunately, they found Bill Suhr. With conservation the orchard was affordable for Bill to purchase. Bill has kept this historic apple orchard thriving. Now this imaginative fruit operation with a large pick-your-own enterprise sells to retail all over the state, has a farm market, and sells pies and other value-added products.  Bill Suhr has worked closely with Middlebury College on many levels.  An extra dimension of the operation students might investigate is the long-standing role of Jamaican apple-pickers.
