With more than 300 donations from the Mad River Valley community, and considerable support from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board and the Town of Warren, the Vermont Land Trust successfully completed a two-year fundraising campaign to permanently protect the Kingsbury Community Farm and advanced future conservation efforts in the Valley. The Vermont Foodbank is focused not only on the farm’s agricultural productivity but also protecting the Mad River (the farm has a half mile of frontage), while also providing future recreational opportunities for the community. The Foodbank will grow food on the Kingsbury farm for local, low-income families.

The Kingsbury Community Farm is an exciting project to research and feature because the program is its earliest stage.  Now that the Foobank owns the farm they are grappling with their strong interest in making local, healthful food more accessible for low-income Vermonters as well as the many challenges as a non-profit organization that must meet the associated fiscal challenges of farm ownership.
