(aka "Starksboro Stories")
The 15 students in this Fall 2008 class led by Professor John Elder were invited to the Town of Starksboro, VT to gather stories from town residents as the first phase of a multi-year “Art and Soul” Civic Engagement process. Starksboro was awarded an Art and Soul planning grant through a competitive grants process offered by the Orton Family Foundation in partnership with the Vermont Land Trust. The goal of the Art and Soul program is to use stories and the arts to spark discussions of community values that will feed into town planning strategies. Students interviewed over 60 residents and shared the stories back with the town in a variety of formats including videos, digital stories, maps, and a print publication.
