Quinn Bernegger '13

Tenor Quinn Bernegger has been recognized across musical styles for his “great vocal agility” and “excellent characterization.” Equally at home in opera, musical theater, and early music, Mr. Bernegger has been seen at regional houses and concert venues around the Northeast. He has performed at Chautauqua Opera as Nanki-Poo in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado, at Tri-Cities Opera in supporting roles in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd (Beadle Bamford) and Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti (the Jazz Trio), and at Opera Saratoga in supporting roles in The Merry Widow (Raoul St. Brioche) and in the chamber premiere of David T. Little's one-act Vinkensport, or the Finch Opera. He received high praise from Opera News for his portrayal of Henrik Egerman in Des Moines Metro Opera’s production of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. He recently reprised the role this February under the baton of Sondheim-expert John DeMain at Madison Opera. Mr. Bernegger is a recipient of numerous distinctions, including first place in The American Prize and selection as a finalist in the FAVA Grand Concours competition. A native of Cooperstown, NY, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College and a graduate diploma at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he performed as Oronte in Handel’s Alcina, Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, and Lenksy in Eugene Onegin. He always looks forward to returning home to Vermont to perform with such companies as the Opera Company of Middlebury, Barn Opera, and the Middlebury Bach Festival. Last year, he made his role debut as the Evangelist in the Middlebury Bach Festival's performances of Bach's St. John Passion, conducted by John Butt. This summer, Mr. Bernegger will again sing with the Des Moines Metro Opera in various roles throughout their season.
