Student and Faculty Work

Guitarist Paul Asbell: In 2009, the jazz-pop group Kilimanjaro (which Paul founded in 1978) released their CD, "Homecoming". In December, Jazziz Magazine picked it as one of their “Critic’s Choice- Best CD’s of 2009”. One of the tracks, “Maceo’s New Suit”, appeared on a Jazziz “Best of 2009” compilation CD included in their December issue, along with tracks from such familiar names as Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, and Branford Marsalis.
This past summer, Paul returned to teach at Guitar Week in Swannanoa, NC, along with Pat Donohue, Kathy Mattea, Al Petteway, Mike Dowling, Craig Fuller, Scott Ainslie, and his former Middlebury College student Anais Mitchell.
Paul recently returned from a 2-week California tour. Shows included 3 days of performances at the NAMM show in Anaheim, where he performed daily on master guitar builder Tom Ribbecke's groundbreaking "Halfling" guitar designs. Other appearances included concerts in Santa Cruz, Thousand Oaks, and master-class/workshops in Santa Cruz and Palo Alto. He also recorded a video lesson for Acoustic Guitar Magazine on playing his composition, "Chunky Monkey Gumbo", which will appear both online and in print in their April, '10 issue.

March 6th, Carol Christensen, voice teacher, will be adjudicating the New Hampshire NATSAA auditions (National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Auditions), held this year at Dartmouth College.
