Ratang Sedimo '18.5

Hometown: Gaborone, Botswana

Year at Middlebury: Junior Feb

Major: Economics & Math

How did you spend your Febmester?

A group of friends and I cycled for over 3 days for charity. We were raising funds to build a house for orphans in a rural part of northeast Botswana. After that, I went back home and started tutoring. This was meaningful to me since it taught me the importance of service work. I gained much joy from serving members of my community!

How has being a Feb influenced your time at Middlebury?

The Feb community at Middlebury is closely knit and very supportive of each other, especially during orientation. I am reminded of my orientation leaders, August and Gracie, who wonderfully welcomed us to campus. They continue to show genuine interest in our lives to this day. Both the Feb community and the broader college community aim to make all new Febs feel as welcome as possible.

What advice do you have for prospective or incoming Febs?

Be prepared to quickly change your daily schedule from doing things on your own time to doing things on time! Adjusting to academics, social life, and Vermont’s winter weather can take a while. This especially applies to those of you who come from warmer climates, like me. Most importantly, find those things that make you happy while you are here and explore ways to be actively engaged in them.
