Why did you choose to attend Middlebury? I chose Middlebury for its community! From applying to going on my campus tour, the school made me feel like I belonged and was seen. Middlebury was the only college that made me feel human in the application process, and it wasn’t hard once I came to visit to fall in love with the campus
Favorite study spot? Proctor Firestone Lounge
Favorite food in the dining hall? Maple Cremees!
Where did you study abroad, or where would you study abroad if you could? I did not study abroad (want to travel after college instead) but would love to see the Oxford campus!
Favorite Vermont spot? My favorite spot in Vermont is hands down South Hero. During the solar eclipse last year a few friends and I went up to watch it unfold over the lake; it was an absolutely amazing experience!
One fun fact about you or unknown talent you have: I successfully taught my cat how to play fetch! Currently trying to harness train him!

Class Year: 2027
Hometown: Montevideo, Uruguay
Major: International and Global Studies & Political Science
Main extracurricular activities: Alianza, ISO, Poetry Nights, UWCUY Intern, Frisbee
Why did you choose to attend Middlebury? I wanted to be in an academic environment that fostered a global perspective. Having lived on a few different continents, I was drawn to the idea of a school that aims to equip its students with the tools to understand global issues and multiculturalism through academic and extracurricular activities. I love having the opportunity to explore other countries and meet new people through the Middlebury Schools abroad while having beautiful Vermont as my newfound home.
Favorite study spot? The couch nook at the end of Axinn’s first floor.
Favorite food in the dining hall? Proc vegetarian chicken parmesan!
Where did you study abroad, or where would you study abroad if you could? I did my first semester of college in Copenhagen, and I will be studying abroad in Nitéroi, Brazil, over the fall, and Paris, France, over the spring.
Favorite Vermont spot? Anywhere in the mountains.
One fun fact about you or unknown talent you have: I was a Chinese Lion Dancer for two years.

Major: Geography and American Studies
Main extracurricular activities: Intern/Social Coordinator for the Geography Department, Co-President of Middlebury MothUp (offshoot of NPR’s the Moth), and Editorial Board Member + Design Editor for Middlebury Geographic Magazine (offshoot of Nat Geo)
Why did you choose to attend Middlebury? When I visited Middlebury for the first time, I just felt it click. Despite an unusual 90-degree day in early August, in just an hour, my campus tour guide, Noah, painted a great picture of what the Middlebury community was like for him and what it could be like for me. After a little more research, I figured out I wanted to attend a small school, but after hours of poring over the admissions website, what drew me to Middlebury specifically was the Feb program. The opportunity to take a semester off before college and do something I’d never done before, while simultaneously still being fully integrated into the rest of Middlebury’s community, felt like an opportunity like no other. I love the Feb community on campus and am so grateful to be a part of it.
Favorite study spot? Upstairs cubicles in the Davis Library or the 6th floor of Bi Hall
Favorite food in the dining hall? Crispy potato cubes at breakfast!
Where did you study abroad, or where would you study abroad if you could? I’m super excited to be heading to Copenhagen in the fall with DIS to study European Urban Planning and Design!
Favorite Vermont spot? Mt. Philo State Park in Charlotte. It’s about 30 minutes away from Middlebury and has a good, chill hike with a beautiful view.
One fun fact about you or unknown talent you have: I’m left-handed!

Nawale Nachula
she/her
Class Year: 2028
Hometown: Lusaka, Zambia and Johannesburg, South Africa
Major: International Politics and Economics
Minor: Film
Main extracurricular activities: President of BSU, SGA Director of DEI, AFC BIPOC FELLOW, Middlebury Consulting Group Student Consultant, Debate Social Chair, Matriculate Advising Fellow, Model United Nations, Middlebury Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.
Why did you choose to attend Middlebury? I chose Middlebury because I wanted a place where I could explore both my academic interests and my identity in a meaningful way. As someone with a multicultural background, I was drawn to Middlebury’s strong international focus and its commitment to language learning, global engagement, and interdisciplinary study. I knew I wanted to study both Film and Economics, and Middlebury’s liberal arts structure gave me the flexibility to do both while still diving into political science and French.
Beyond academics, I was really looking for a community where I could be involved, whether that’s through student radio, the Black Student Union, debate, or working with Matriculate. Middlebury isn’t perfect, but its size means students can have a real impact. That mattered to me. I didn’t just want to go somewhere prestigious, I wanted to go somewhere I could grow, challenge the culture, and help build the kind of space I wish I had growing up.
Favorite study spot? Davis Library Basement!
Favorite food in the dining hall? Falafel!
Where did you study abroad, or where would you study abroad if you could? I plan on studying abroad in both Oxford and Paris!
Favorite Vermont spot? Lake Dunmore!
One fun fact about you or unknown talent you have: I play both the violin and the drums!
