What’s the one thing that Middlebury students should NOT graduate without doing?
To be cliché: Spend a summer at Middlebury. To be realistic: Spend one full day doing absolutely no homework, regardless of deadlines (preferably not before an exam or final). It's important to take a break from academics every once in awhile. For an indoor activity, consider ordering a pizza from Ramunto's and watching a movie with friends, exploring Ross to it's full extent, starting a (tamed and controlled) fire in one of the lounges and make s'mores. Design a J-Term class or workshop.
If I taught a J-Term workshop, it would be a cooking class following recipes in the unofficial Harry Potter cookbook. If I could bring in a super celebrity to help me out, it would most definitely be Evanna Lynch, who plays Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films.
If you could “Freaky Friday” your way into the body of any professor on campus, who would it be and why?
I would definitely choose Physics Professor Anne Goodsell. She is one of the most organized professors I know. She makes class fun and engaging and puts an incredible amount of time and effort into the courses she teaches. I would be interested in seeing how she does it all in one day. I'm pretty sure she's got a time turner...
How would you spend a beautiful day at Middlebury?
Depends on the season. If it’s summer, there’d definitely be a pit stop at the Gorge trail to swim. If it’s fall, I’d head over to Breadloaf for a picnic with friends. If it’s winter, I’d head up to the Snow Bowl and ski until the runs close. If it’s spring, expect to see me diggin’ up some dirt and planting my vegetable and herb starts from my room. Regardless of the season, if it’s a beautiful day, I’ll be running the TAM.
What did you do on your Febmester? Regs, feel free to share what you would have done.
During my sophomore fall, I took a febmester. I worked at Starbuck’s in downtown Oklahoma City (it’s called Bricktown), got a membership at the YMCA and worked out like a fiend, and spent the rest of my time relaxing and reading Harry Potter 1 & 3 in French.
