Dean of Admissions
Dean of Admissions Greg Buckles brings a wealth of experience as an educator and administrator. Since he began working for Middlebury in 2008, Greg has overseen operations of the admissions office and helped the office adopt new technology for reviewing applications. He also instituted the Senior Fellows program, which gives a high-visibility role in the admissions office—and campus leadership opportunities—to a talented and diverse group of students.
Before arriving at Middlebury, Greg served as director of admissions at Kenyon College in Ohio, where he had previously worked, from 1989 to 1994, as assistant and then associate director. He worked from 1994-1996 as associate director of admissions at Denison University, also in Ohio. Prior to his work in higher education, Greg was a teacher, coach and assistant headmaster at two boarding schools. A 1984 graduate of Denison, he also holds a master’s degree in literature from Trinity College in Connecticut.
Greg is an avid fly fisherman, with experience guiding in Alaska—a pursuit with many apt metaphors for the Admissions process, he notes. He also enjoys skiing and bicycling in the Green Mountain state. Greg lives with his family in Middlebury and, as the parent of four children, he appreciates the excitement and anxiety that go along with the college search process.
