Director of Admissions/Coordinator of Multicultural RecruitmentTX, OK, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands
Manuel Carballo has coordinated the recruitment of under-represented students at Middlebury College since he joined the Admissions Office in 2005. Now director of admissions and multicultural recruitment, Manuel is responsible for the logistics and operations of an office that receives over 8,000 applications each year. He directs the Discover Middlebury overnight program for prospective students, serves as the Admissions liaison to the Posse Scholars Program, and his travel territory includes Latin America, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
Born in Costa Rica, Manuel also lived in Colombia and the Dominican Republic, before earning his bachelor’s degree in economics from Swarthmore College in 1998. He has a master’s degree in international education policy from Harvard University, and prior to Middlebury he worked in admissions at Swarthmore, and served as principal of the Blue Valley School in Costa Rica and the Providence Christian School in Texas.
After two years as Middlebury’s regional representative in Texas, Manuel and his wife, Brook Escobedo, are delighted to rejoin the community in Vermont. He enjoys soccer, bicycling, snowboarding, and attending athletic events at the College.
