Jonathan Perlman '19

Admissions Summer Intern

Hometown: Bala Cynwyd, PA

Year: 2019

Favorite class: This past J-term I took a class called Introduction to Meditation. We learned about the tradition of meditation as well as practiced different forms of meditation. I found meditation to be a valuable skill that I wouldn’t have been able to learn about during the normal academic semester.

Favorite pastime: My favorite pastime is skiing. I’ve enjoyed skiing since a young age and have taken advantage of the many ski mountains that are close by to Middlebury. I especially get a lot of skiing in during J-term when my schedule is more flexible.

Favorite thing about Vermont: The mountains. The mountains in Vermont offer great opportunities to go skiing and hiking. They also make for great views from campus!

How did you learn about Middlebury: My Dad graduated in the class of 1975 and my Sister graduated in the class of 2012.

Tell us about a Middlebury Moment: During a workout my freshman cross country season at Chipman Hill, our team’s faculty affiliate, Philosophy Professor Steve Viner, showed up to run the warmup and cooldown with us and cheer us on at the top of the hill. I was impressed with Professor Viner’s genuine interest in students’ lives and find this to be the case with many Middlebury faculty!

What is one challenge you have faced while at Middlebury and how did you overcome it: This past fall, I got an injury that ended my cross country season. I spent a lot of time with sports medicine who helped me heal and stay healthy for my track season.

What is one this you hope to do before you graduate: I want to be an All-American in track.
