John Adams

John Adams

Teacher of Chinese

Westchester Academy Country Day School, NC

"Before I applied to Middlebury," says John Adams, "I came here to visit. I sat in on a class, and I realized that any other language school would be a waste of time. Middlebury gives me the experience in the target language that will improve my ability as a nonnative speaker, and it covers content that is relevant to my career."

John plans to use what he's learned at Middlebury to deliver a better, more enjoyable learning experience for his students. "The contacts that you make here and the information and the ideas that are shared here are invaluable," he says. "I just want to keep progressing."

Teacher of Chinese and History

Hingham High School, Hingham, MA

"I think of teaching as an idealistic profession," says Erica Dieselman. "You want to help your students prepare for whatever comes next." As Erica discovered, becoming a better teacher meant doing some preparation of her own. Middlebury's unique immersion environment, she says, is helping her improve her linguistic fluency and her teaching skills.

"I can go anywhere and learn about teaching methods and linguistics. But at Middlebury, I can study linguistics and teaching methods in Chinese. These dual opportunities will help me become the best teacher I can be. That's going to affect a lot of students' lives."
