On-Campus Lodging

The College offers graduates’ families a limited number of single and double dormitory rooms with twin beds in Gifford and Hepburn dormitories on Hepburn Road. Linens, towels, pillows, and blankets are provided. Bathroom facilities are shared, with bar soap and plastic cups available. Guests should bring all other toiletries. Wi-Fi is available, but there is no television service. Rooms are not air-conditioned. If you require private restroom facilities, please seek alternative accommodations.

Please review the information on this web page before registering for lodging.

Registering, Confirmation, Payment, and Cancellation

Reservations and payments for Commencement housing will be taken online starting noon EST on Monday, November 11, 2019, through noon EST on Friday, November 15, 2019.

Please note when registering that you will add rooms to your cart one at a time, so that we may collect important information for each occupant. Do not change the quantity when you add a room to your cart. You may add rooms to your cart multiple times.

The charge for lodging will appear on your credit card statement as MC Bookstore.

Notification to confirm reservations will be sent via email no later than December 14, 2019. Specific room assignments will be made in the spring.

Payment will be made online when you submit a reservation. We accept Visa, MasterCard, or debit card. The price of lodging—Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23—is a flat rate of $150 per person, regardless of whether you stay one or both nights (no discounts apply). Breakfast is included. Payment will be refunded in full if we are unable to fulfill your reservation. Cancellations received prior to May 1 will be fully refunded.

Returning Febs and Nongraduating Seniors

Nongraduating seniors (those completing degree requirements after May 2020 but by February 2021) are allowed to stay on campus during Commencement week. In mid-May, all nongraduating seniors will receive door slips in their mailboxes. The slip allows them to stay in their dorm rooms during Commencement week. If you are a nongraduating senior and do not receive a door slip, please be in touch with Assistant Director of Residential Life Housing Kady Shea via email at housing-undergraduate@middlebury.edu.

Returning Febs must make special arrangements for on-campus weekend housing by contacting Assistant Director of Residential Life Housing Kady Shea via email at housing-undergraduate@middlebury.edu before May 1. Weekend housing is available from 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday of Commencement Weekend to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday (Commencement day).

Please note: All students must be moved out of residence halls no later than 11:00 p.m. on Commencement day so Middlebury can prepare rooms for Reunion and Language Schools.

Location and Availability

Dormitory rooms are made available on Hepburn Road, close to many of the weekend’s event venues. Guests may unload luggage at their dormitory but must park vehicles at the Mahaney Arts Center parking lot, just a short walk away.

Due to the nature of our year-round campus, housing is available only for Friday and Saturday evenings of Commencement Weekend. If you need housing for Commencement Sunday, please make arrangements for non-College lodging.

Parents and guests are encouraged to make lodging arrangements as soon as possible. Accommodations within the town of Middlebury are limited. A listing of websites for lodging in Addison County and neighboring areas of Vermont and New York State is provided below. Sleeping in unreserved spaces on campus is not permitted.

This will be the only opportunity to make reservations for College lodging. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and reservations will be taken in order of receipt. Although we make every effort to house families and friends in close proximity, it is not always possible to honor requests for neighboring rooms, nor can we honor requests for specific rooms. Don’t delay! Requests for double rooms typically exceed availability within 24–48 hours of the opening of online registration.

Checkout and Graduate Departure

Checkout is 6:00 p.m. on Commencement Sunday. We are unable to make exceptions. If you need housing Sunday evening, please refer to the list at right for other lodging options.

Graduates are required to move out of their dorm rooms no later than 11:00 p.m. on Commencement Sunday. Be prepared! If possible, ship nonessential items home in advance. Pack remaining items during Senior Week.

In light of the 2:00 p.m. ceremony time for Commencement 2020, we highly recommend packing up and loading your vehicle prior to the ceremony.

Guest and graduate checkout deadlines must be enforced so that rooms can be prepared for Reunion and Language Schools.

We hope this information assists you in selecting suitable lodging for your family and guests. We look forward to welcoming you to Middlebury in May!
