College Lodging

Please note: There is no campus housing available for February Celebration weekend. For questions about “Feb Celebration” please contact Alumni and Parent Programs: 802.443.5183.

The College offers parents and Commencement guests a limited number of single and double dormitory rooms (all with twin beds) at Bread Loaf campus, and on the main campus in Stewart Hall. Linens, towels, pillows, and blankets are provided. Bathroom facilities are shared. There is no television service.

Bread Loaf InnBREAD LOAF: The Bread Loaf mountain campus is approximately 20 minutes from main campus. There is no public transportation to or from Bread Loaf; guests must provide their own. Accommodations are rustic, ranging from dormitory style buildings to small cottages. Some cottages are located on country roads less than a mile from Bread Loaf's main inn. Availability of handicap accessible rooms is limited; most rooms require the use of stairs (up to 3 flights). There are no elevators. Cell phone service is minimal at best, but there are shared land lines in every building.

STEWART HALL: Stewart Hall is located on our main campus, close to many of the weekend’s event venues. It is not handicap accessible. There are no elevators, so most rooms require the use of stairs (up to 4 flights). Guests may unload luggage at Stewart Hall, but must park vehicles at the Mahaney Center for the Arts parking lot, just a short walk away.

Due to the nature of our year-round campus, housing is available ONLY for Friday and Saturday evening of Commencement weekend. If you need housing for Commencement Sunday, please make arrangements for non-College lodging.

Parents and guests are encouraged to make lodging arrangements as soon as possible. Accommodations within the town of Middlebury are limited. A listing of web sites for lodging in Addison County and neighboring areas of Vermont and New York State is provided at right. Sleeping in unreserved spaces on campus is not permitted.

OPEN REGISTRATION DATES: Reservations and payments for Commencement housing at either Bread Loaf campus or Stewart Hall will be taken on-line starting noon on Monday, November 14, 2011; through noon on Friday, November 18, 2011. On those dates, the on-line reservation form can be found at go.middlebury.edu/commencement?housing.

This will be the ONLY opportunity to make reservations for College lodging. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and reservations will be taken in order of receipt. Although we make every effort to house families and friends in close proximity, it is not always possible to honor requests for neighboring rooms, nor can we honor requests for specific rooms. Don’t delay! Requests for lodging typically exceed availability within 24-48 hours of the opening of on-line registration.

CONFIRMATION: Notification to confirm reservations will be sent via email no later than December 2. Specific room assignments will be made in the spring.

PAYMENT: Payment will be made on-line when you submit a reservation. We accept Visa, MasterCard, or debit card. The price of lodging --Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26-- is a flat rate of $100 per person; regardless of whether you stay one or both nights (no discounts apply). Breakfast is included. Payment will be refunded in full if we are unable to fulfill your reservation.

CHECK-OUT: Check-out is 3:00 p.m. on Commencement Sunday. We are unable to make exceptions to this check-out time. If you need housing Sunday evening, please refer to the list at right for other lodging options.

GRADUATE DEPARTURE: Graduates are required to move out of their dorm rooms no later than 11:00 p.m. on Commencement day. Be prepared! If possible, ship non-essential items home in advance. Pack remaining items during Senior Week.

Guest and graduate check-out deadlines must be enforced so that rooms can be prepared for Reunion and Language School.
