Staff Who Are New York Residents

Dear Staff Who Are New York Residents
As many of you have heard, Governor Cuomo has issued an executive order requiring non-essential businesses to close and to keep their workers at home as of 8:00 pm tonight, Sunday, March 22.
Vermont has not issued such an order, and therefore Middlebury continues to operate. As you know, Middlebury is continuing to provide essential services such as food and shelter to approximately 125 students remaining on campus, carrying out essential business. (Clarifying guidance on the governor’s executive order recognizes that educational institutions, while no longer providing in-person instruction, are otherwise considered essential businesses.)
As New York residents, you will need to make your own decisions about whether to work remotely or on the Middlebury campus based on your understanding of New York’s laws. Unfortunately, Middlebury is prohibited from providing advice regarding New York law.
As you think about your decision, please consider these principles:
- If you can work remotely, continue to do so.
- If you cannot work remotely, exercise your own judgment about whether or not to come to work, and please give your supervisor as much advance notice as possible.
- If you decide to not come to work, the COVID19 Pay Bank will be available for the pay period that begins tomorrow, March 23. Information about how to enter that time into Banner will be provided to the community early this week.
Please be well. And thank you, sincerely, for how you and all of Middlebury are adapting to our new environment.
