  • Proof of Life Multimedia Exhibit and Reception

    This reception, which warmly welcomes the public, celebrates the fieldwork and reflections of students in the winter term course: Acting Your Age: Meanings of Adulthood. Through images, objects and text in the exhibit, students share personal, scholarly, and creative reflections about notions of adulting and adulthood. They reveal traces of gendered norms for adulting from the college archives, and tell stories of childhood, ageing and being alive drawn from their fieldwork with children and elders in Addison County.

    Alexa Duchesneau will give the second talk in the annual Anthro & Friends Winter Speaker Series, titled “Simians and the Story of Us: What Biological Anthropology Brings to STEM.” In an increasingly divided world, Biological Anthropology and Primatology are a bridge between divided academic disciplines: the social sciences and the hard sciences. The combination of observational studies and hypothesis testing places these fields in the unique position of being truly interdisciplinary.

  • Introduction to Chinese Calligraphy

    Winterterm Workshop

    A comprehensive introduction to traditional Chinese brush calligraphy. We will start from the very basics: how to hold a brush and the basic strokes. Each week will consist of two sessions, with each week focusing on a new style or calligrapher. The leader will give an introduction to each style and demonstrate writing. The participants will then have the opportunity to practice, with the workshop leader giving feedback. During the last session (or two) we will write traditional Spring Couplets on red paper for Spring Festival. No experience necessary.

  • Pulse: A Transportation Thesis by Ellie Trinkle

    I have been intimate with transportation my entire life; stepping into spaces where every sound, every person, every piece of metal becomes a part of my experience. The purpose of this project is to take inspiration from films I studied during the fall and create a multimedia installation about transportation, intimacy, film, and connection.

    Join us for a work-in-progress showing that is part of a January term residency and arts exchange with the Australian theatre company, One Step at a Time Like This, centering Shakespeare, eco-dramaturgy, climate, theatre, and interdisciplinary methods in storytelling and performance. 

    This residency culminates with a new site-specific work, ALL THE WAYS WITHOUT YOU, set in and around Wright Theatre.

By sharing personal hopes and aspirations on a communal wall, the project fosters connection, introspection, and a celebration of our shared humanity. Inspired by the global Before I Die project, this installation transforms public space into a canvas for gratitude, memory, and possibility.
