Ann Flower

Ann is (by far) the longest serving staff member at the Middlebury Institute Library. After working at a fine photography framing shop and managing a record store, she took a job as a reference librarian here in 1987. At that time, the school was still called Monterey Institute of International Studies. When Ann was promoted to her current position as library director, she took on the additional responsibilities of developing policies and overseeing daily operations.

A proud Bay Area native, she still considers the Richmond Branch of San Francisco Public Library an important part of her childhood. Very early on, she began pursuing the interests that would endure throughout her life. Already a voracious reader by the time she entered school, Ann started studying French in Kindergarten. Her youthful enthusiasm for dogs and horses also would not fade with time. A bit later, she became an avid walker, hiker, and fan of live performing arts.

Ann thinks that finding great information with a variety of methodologies and sources is one of the best ways to spend a day. She also particularly likes collaborating with MIIS students, both individually and in groups. One of her talents is recommending an ideal book for each library patron.
