Where should you start? How about 19th century catalogs listing scientific specimens collected by Middlebury’s Department of Geology? A letter sent to Henry David Thoreau by the antislavery activist James Redpath? What about letters sent home by Vermont’s Civil War soldiers serving on the frontlines? If those don’t tempt you, try correspondence from the Ernest Hemingway Family Archive or a letter by Emma Willard.
