Jim Ralph is the Dean for Faculty Development and Research (DFDR) at Middlebury.  He served as the DFDR from 2008 to 2010 and then as the Dean of the Faculty from 2010-2012. He is a graduate of Middlebury College, and he joined the Middlebury faculty as a member of the History Department in 1989. He has just returned from an academic leave which was spent largely at the University of Illinois. The focus of his research is on the civil rights movement in the North and on urban America.
