Work-Life Mini Grants

All of us seek to balance personal and professional obligations, no matter our roles at the College or where we are in our careers.  Supported by an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation award to promote faculty career flexibility, we are pleased to announce a second round of a pilot program that supports both faculty and staff in addressing these daily challenges.

The work/life mini-grant program is designed to solicit specific ideas for actions the College can take to support faculty and staff in managing their multiple roles.  The most deserving of these suggestions will be funded through a portion of the Sloan Award.  We welcome proposals from individuals as well as from groups (informal or formal).

What sorts of projects have been funded?

As a result of the first round of the mini-grants competition, additional changing tables have been installed on campus, yoga classes have been held, visiting speakers have spoken on reducing stress, and meditation workshops have been provided.  Ideas that benefit both faculty and staff will be given priority.  Grants will be awarded in amounts ranging from $250 to $5,000. Grant awards will include an allocation to account for implementation costs.

How will the process work?

Proposals and suggestions should be submitted using the Work/Life Mini-Grant Application for (see below). This form asks you to describe your idea, outline the costs and who needs to be involved, and identify what role you will play if the grant is awarded.  The ACE/Sloan Advisory Committee on Faculty Career Flexibility will review the proposals, solicit additional information (if necessary), and award the grants.  Applications must be received by Friday, May 20, 2011.
