"As programs at Middlebury evolve, greater demands are sometimes placed on faculty and staff members who are deeply committed to the welfare of students—academically, physically, and emotionally . . . We recommend that the College explore ways to enhance work-life balance and to recognize ever-evolving life roles and responsibilities."

The balance between our work and our lives outside the office has never been a more crucial issue at Middlebury than it is right now. Having weathered the Great Recession in part through staff reductions—even though these all came through attrition—Middlebury's staff and faculty are still learning to cope with a different landscape, what has been called "the new normal."
To help re-center our faculty and staff in these difficult times, we are setting up this Work/Life Balance website, where we will aggregate information about various efforts around campus, and in the larger Middlebury community and in Vermont, to help find this elusive balance. Among the more significant right now is the ACE/Sloan project on faculty career flexibility. It's hoped that the ideas and initiatives brought to the fore through this project will benefit the entire Middlebury community, not just the faculty.
If you have feedback on this site, thoughts on programs that should be mentioned here, or just helpful hints to pass along to Middlebury employees, we hope you will share them.
