Lucy Grindon '19, a history major and an Arabic minor participated in the community engagement program Jiran جيران during the summer of 2019. Jiran, a Middlebury initiative, is a summer language program that pairs intermediate and advanced Arabic students with underserved Arabic-speaking families in New Britain, Connecticut.

Mari Odoy '20 and Will O’Neal '20, who have been studying Arabic at Middlebury since Fall 2016, worked with Prof. Dima Ayoub on her Arabic paratexts project during the summer of 2018. In this article, Mari and Will talk about their project experience.

Professor Elizabeth Saylor is currently working on a Digital Humanities database presenting the little-known works of diasporic women writers and journalists from Greater Syria in a navigable online format. Her project seeks to restore, preserve, and highlight the forgotten voices of early Arab women writers living in the diaspora.
