Catherine Cabeen will join the Middlebury Dance Faculty as Assistant Professor in Contemporary Dance and Choreography, beginning fall 2012. Catherine is artistic director of Catherine Cabeen and Company in Seattle, WA and former dancer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. She received her MFA in Dance from the University of Washington, and is particularly interested in scholarship relating to dance history and gender studies. She will be teaching advanced technique and choreography in the fall and choreographing for the Dance Company of Middlebury. Welcome Catherine!

Guest artists Teena Marie Custer and Nicholas Leichter and Artist in Residence Tiffany Rhynard contribute pieces to the concert. DCM will show and discuss the progress they’ve made in constructing a diverse concert of works for formal performance at Middlebury in January and later on tour to Philadelphia, PA. Supported in part by a grant from the Committee on the Arts, the company is exploring the roots of American dance forms: Swing, Contact Improvisation, Hip-Hop, and Modern Dance. Guest choreographers Teena Marie Custer and Nicholas Leichter will contribute new pieces to the company’s repertory which is under the artistic direction of Artist in Residence Tiffany Rhynard. FREE.

Advanced student choreographers explore the impacts of theatrical lighting on new work created under the direction of Christal Brown, Visiting Lecturer in Dance, and Jennifer Ponder, lighting designer. Brown will choreograph the annual Newcomer's Piece, a platform for fresh talent in the dance program.
