Middlebury

How many items may I check out at one time?

For most borrowers, the system has a limit of 1500 items.  More details can be found on the LIS Wiki here.

What are the library hours?

Library hours can be found here.

How long can I borrow this?

Loan periods for all patrons and items can be found on the Wiki here.

How do I renew my library items?

The easiest way is to login to My MIDCAT with your Middlebury username and password, click on "x items currently checked out", and select the items you want to renew.  Alternatively, you can come to the circulation desk and we can renew your items for you.

Some ILL items are now renewable!  To check and see if your item is renewable, please login to Illiad.  If the renew option does not appear, the item is not renewable.  If you need help,  please contact the Interlibrary Loan Department to renew your items.

I am not affiliated with Middlebury College. Can I borrow materials?

Possibly.  A list of eligible guest borrowers, along with an application, can be found in the Wiki here.

How do I request that the library purchase something?

Go to this form and fill it out.

How do I get in touch with the Circulation Desk?

You can call us at 802-443-5494, or email us at library_circulation@middlebury.edu.  Additional contact info can be found here.

How do I find something on reserve?

Go here to search by instructor name or course number, or to search ERes for electronic reserves.

I would like to screen a film.

That is not a question, but information about screenings, including a scheduling form, can be found here.

Do I need my ID to borrow materials?

Yes.  Using your Middlebury ID or guest borrower library card is the only way to guarantee that we are accessing the correct record.

Can I work at the circulation desk?

Probably.  To inquire about job availability, please email us.  If we are hiring, we usually put a blurb on the right-hand side of this page, as well.

Can I borrow Microsoft Office?

No, but if you are a Middlebury student, staff, or faculty, you can download it here.

What equipment is available to borrow?

A list of available equipment can be found via MIDCAT here.

Most equipment circulates for either a day or a week.  If you need something for a longer period of time, please contact Media Services.

Can I borrow materials from other libraries?

Yes, a couple of ways.

Nexpress is a quick and easy way to get materials—usually 2-3 days.

Interlibrary Loan can be used if something is not available via NExpress.

Can I return a book from a branch library?

Yes.  All books and media (NOT reserve items) can be returned at any branch.  Equipment and reserve items must be returned to the branch from which they were borrowed.

Where can I find _____?

Here are some maps of the Davis Family Library on the Wiki.

Where is the Oversize section?

On the upper level of the Davis Family Library, in the corner after the DF section.

Are there things that can't leave the library?

Yes.  Student laptops and chargers, most reserve items, and media from behind the circ desk may not leave the library. In addition, reference materials, bound periodicals, and items from Special Collections are for library use only.

What is my ERes password?

You can determine your ERes password by clicking here.

I am off campus. How do I access (x resource)?

If you are a current Middlebury student, staff, or faculty, information on off-campus access can be found in the Wiki here.

Guests and alumni can only access these resources from on campus.

Is there a scanner I can use?

Yes.  Here is the Helpdesk page on scanners.

The library is pretty great.

That's not really a question.  But thanks!
