Rachael Elliott, originally from Lyndon, Vermont, is a bassoonist and improviser currently based in Durham, North Carolina who performs in classical, rock and new music settings. As a founding member of Clogs, Rachael has toured throughout the United States, Europe and Australia and recorded several critically-acclaimed albums, including Clogs’ 2010 release, The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton. In addition, she is a member of the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble, Heliand Trio, Tuple bassoon duo and a frequent guest with the Vermont Symphony and Burlington Chamber Orchestra. Rachael has performed on rock stages with The National, Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond.
Currently, Rachael is at work on her first solo album, which features world premiere recordings of contemporary solo and chamber music for bassoon. Recent grants include: Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Program (2010); Vermont Arts Council Artist Development Grant (2008); American Composers Forum Encore Grant (2005), Vermont Arts Council Opportunity Grant (2005).
Rachael studied with Frank Morelli at Manhattan School of Music (B.M.) and Yale School of Music (M.M.). She currently teaches at the University of Vermont, Middlebury College, Duke University and Kinhaven Music School.
