Music Theory Placement Exam
It is possible for students to test into Music I (MUSC 209) and Music Theory II (MUSC 260) by taking a placement exam rather than taking Theory I (MUSC 160).
Send an email indicating your interest in taking the placement exam to Professor Matthew Quayle, mquayle@middlebury.edu. A time will then be arranged to administer the placement exam.
Incoming students: Arrange to take the exam prior to registration.
Current students: November 1, April 1 deadlines for requesting placement exam for the next semester classes.
Music Curricular Worksheet - Tracking Form
Students may use this worksheet to talk with their music department advisor and to track their progress through the major or minor.
Independent Projects and Senior Work
All students interested in submitting a proposal for senior work or an independent study project for next academic year should first discuss their intentions with department chair and/or with a music faculty advisor. Please read each of the three items below carefully.
