Middlebury is highly selective, with admissions decisions based on high school records, standardized test scores, recommendations, extracurricular involvement, and student writing. Most students rank in the top 10 percent of their high school classes, challenge themselves with difficult courses, and demonstrate commitment to interests beyond academics.
Middlebury selects students for admission who show the potential and desire to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. For that reason, whether they come from small-town America, a big city, the suburbs, or from outside the U.S., Middlebury students find that they have much in common.

The Application
The Middlebury application consists of Middlebury's Common Application Supplement and the Common Application, both of which should be filed online.
Application Deadlines
Make sure to verify the application deadlines . Deadline dates may be different for the Supplement and the Common Application.
Supplementary Materials
To demonstrate special abilities in the arts, writing, athletics, etc., supplemental materials are welcomed as part of your application. Please refer to the guidelines.
Interviews
On campus interviews are not required but we strongly encourage a campus visit. Campus tours and group sessions are offered on a regular basis.
Upon completing an application to Middlebury, applicants living in the United States who have been unable to visit campus may be contacted by an alumni volunteer for an interview. These interviews take place near the student's hometown in November for Early Decision I students and January for Early Decision II and Regular Decision students. We do our best to interview international applicants, but due to the large number of applicants and the availability of interviewers abroad, we are unable to guarantee an alumni interview for all applicants living abroad. In those areas where alumni interviewers are available, applicants will be assigned an interview when possible. Students should always remember that an interview is not a requirement for admission and the absence of an interview will not have a negative impact on the student's admissions decision.
Please note that alumni interviews will ONLY be assigned to students who did not have an interview on campus. Due to the high volume of calls and emails that the admissions office receives in November and January, we kindly ask that you refrain from calling or emailing the office during the beginning of the interview period to request an interview. The alumni volunteer assigned to you will reach out by phone or email, so please be sure that your information is as accurate and complete as possible on the application, and check your spam folder just in case a message is there. If you are a boarding school student, you will need to use your boarding school address to receive an interview at your school. Any mistakes may cause a delay in your interview assignment.
Early Decision
Early Decision may be elected by students for whom Middlebury is a clear first choice. Early Decision candidates must enroll if admitted, and enjoy no statistical advantage in gaining admissions over students applying for a regular decision.
Financial Aid
The College follows a need-blind admission policy for domestic students, which means that a student's financial status does not influence the admission decision. In the case of international students, Middlebury follows a need-blind admissions policy to the extent that financial resources allow. Middlebury makes every effort to all help candidates obtain the financial aid they need in the form of grants, loans, and work/study jobs.
