Interviews

Alumni interviews are typically scheduled during the month of November for Early Decision I students and January for Early Decision II, and January through the first week in February for Regular Decision students.

As a matter of fairness to all of our applicants, Middlebury does not offer on-campus interviews. Middlebury offers to as many applicants as possible the opportunity to interview with a local alumnus/a in the applicant’s home or school community. After submitting an application to Middlebury, the applicant may be contacted by an alumni volunteer for an interview if an alumni representative is locally available.

We do our best to interview international applicants, but due to the large number of applicants and the limited availability of interviewers abroad, we are unable to guarantee an alumni interview for all applicants living abroad.

While we strive to arrange as many alumni interviews as possible, please remember that an interview is not a requirement for admission to Middlebury, and that not having an interview will not have a negative impact on your application.  In many areas the number of applicants exceeds the number of available volunteers. We do our best to offer interviews to as many applicants as possible.

Due to the high volume of calls and e-mails that the Admissions Office receives in November and January, please refrain from calling or e-mailing the Admissions Office during the beginning of the interview period to request an interview. The alumni volunteer assigned to you will be in contact by phone or e-mail, so please be sure that your information is as accurate and complete as possible on the application, and check your spam folder to recover any missed e-mails. If you are living at a boarding school, we will use your school year address (as supplied on your Common Application) to assign an interview. Any mistakes may cause a delay in your interview assignment.

Scheduling a Classroom Visit

Prospective students are very welcome to visit classes. Please consult the course schedule here: Course Schedule. Classes at the 100 or 200 level are probably most appropriate. Please arrive a few minutes before class, or email the professor in advance to ask permission, as there may be an exam planned or other reason why it would be best not to have visitors that day.

Overnight Hosting

Middlebury provides two options for overnight hosting:

Discover Middlebury Program
Middlebury College invites you to visit our campus during our annual multicultural open house, Discover Middlebury, October 16th-18th, 2011. We are looking for students who are intellectually motivated and would like to explore the pursuit of higher education at a small liberal arts and sciences college. For more information see Discover Middlebury.

Preview Days
Middlebury holds an overnight visit in the spring for accepted first-year applicants in April. Invitations are sent in with the acceptance packets and open on a space-available basis. This visit allows applicants to spend the night on campus with a student host and take part in many of the campus activities.
