Allison Coyne Carroll, Director of Middlebury College’s acclaimed Performing Arts Series, curates visiting artist performances and residencies for the Middlebury campus and community.

She frequently serves as a grant panelist and advocates regularly for the arts—specifically issues relating to cultural diplomacy, immigration, and taxation for artists from abroad. Allison was recently named the 2018 recipient of the Vermont Arts Council's Margaret L. (Peggy) Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy, for her leadership and advocacy for the arts at both a state and national level.

After studying music education and French horn at both the Manhattan and Crane Schools of Music, Allison worked as the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Chorus Coordinator and Assistant to director Robert DeCormier, before joining the Middlebury staff in 1997. As a musician, she has performed with numerous Vermont ensembles, been a featured vocal soloist, and sung choral works on four record labels.

She resides in Hinesburg with her son.

When asked why she works in the arts, Allison responded:

"I am continually inspired by people coming together across many miles, disciplines, cultures, faiths and beliefs through the arts. I have a particular interest in seeing the visa and taxation process improve for international artists visiting the United States, and eliminating that obstacle to global dialogue.

For me, every performance feels like world peace; achieved in 2 acts, with a 15 minute intermission."
