Call for Nominations

Middlebury is pleased to announce our partnership in the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network, a cross-institutional initiative established to nurture leadership skills in women. BOLD provides scholarships to women students in their junior and senior year, along with a suite of academic and professional development activities. We are pleased to be joined by Smith College, California State University at Fullerton, and Rutgers University-Newark, which serves as the anchor institution for this initiative. The program is funded by the Pussycat Foundation, a private foundation established by the late Helen Gurley Brown, who was editor in chief of Cosmopolitan magazine for 32 years.

BOLD launched in January 2017 with 10-student cohorts selected at each partner institution. BOLD Scholars are dynamic, authentic, courageous, and thoughtful student leaders who want to make an impact on campus, in their communities, and in the world.  BOLD will select a second cohort of 5 students from each institution in spring 2017.

Students are selected via a multistage nomination and selection process conducted by BOLD national staff with support from local site coordinators and volunteer evaluators on each campus. From the pool of all nominees, up to 50 students at each institution will have the opportunity to participate in a large-group interview, with finalists being invited back for a one-on-one interview. The second cohort (5 Scholars) from Middlebury will be selected after group interviews on Friday, April 14 (3:15-6:15pm) and second-round individual interviews on Saturday, April 15 (9am-12noon), and will be notified of selection thereafter.

The BOLD Network is committed to supporting young women from all backgrounds and especially those who have been significantly underrepresented in higher education in terms of socioeconomic class, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, citizenship, and ability.

All faculty and staff are invited to nominate students for the BOLD scholarship.
