Stephanie Norton, Yaroslavl

Kenyon College

While I was studying in Yaroslavl, I interned at the Yaroslavl State Historical Art and Architecture Museum, where my primary responsibility was to translate the museum’s press releases into English for their website. Most
of the press releases were about special events and exhibitions the museum hosted, from a festival for the Russian holiday Maslenitsa, to an exposition on monographs, to a unique and much-debated video exhibit marking the 100-year anniversary of Tolstoy’s death. And the best part was that I got to attend all of these events with a museum specialist to give me all the inside information, and got to participate in discussions about each new exposition. Through my internship, I learned so much about Russian culture, traditions, history, and art--and it was undoubtedly one of the best aspects of my entire experience in Russia.
