Middlebury offers a range of resources for students, staff, and faculty designed to increase engagement and inclusion, provide opportunities for community building, and connect individuals with the support they need to succeed.
One of the strategies outlined in our Action Plan for Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is to ensure students, staff, and faculty can share concerns related to difficult issues, seek support related to climate barriers, explore potential strategies to address concerns, and access individual consultation to develop strategies for navigating and responding to difficult issues or for implementing equitable and inclusive practices. International Student and Scholar Services
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) provides resources and support services for international students, staff, and faculty—including information related to enrolling and hiring international students and scholars, immigration and visa-related support, and coordination of ISSS Pre-orientation for international students and the Friends of International Students (FIS) host program.
ISSS Pre-orientation helps new international students, including exchange students and U.S. students living abroad, learn about life at Middlebury. ISSS staff and returning international students help new students to settle in, understand their visa status, and become familiar with concepts and resources that will help them transition to the U.S.
Friends of International Students
The Friends of International Students (FIS) host program matches international students with a host family in the Middlebury area who helps new students explore life outside the campus through shared meals or community events.
Resources for DACA and Undocumented Students
Middlebury College welcomes applications from undocumented and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students. We seek to enroll the best and most promising students regardless of their immigration status. Middlebury is and will remain unwaveringly committed to providing educational opportunities to students without regard to nationality, place of birth, immigration status, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or economic status.
We maintain DACA Resources with useful information and updates. Current and incoming DACA and undocumented students can contact Elaine Orozco Hammond, Director of Equity Initiatives, with questions and for support.
Disability Resource Center
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) collaborates with partners across campus to identify and reduce barriers that limit access, equity, and full participation and provides support, resources, and case management services related to accommodations and how to implement them. The DRC also advocates for equitable and inclusive policies and practices to institutionalize inclusive design and access.
Charles P. Scott Center for Spiritual and Religious Life
The Charles P. Scott Center for Spiritual and Religious Life is home to the range of beliefs and spiritual practices that make up our diverse Middlebury community. We are educators, compassionate caregivers, ritual leaders, allies, and advocates—committed to the education of the whole person where everyone’s intellectual, spiritual, and moral character can grow and flourish.
We create opportunities for fruitful interfaith dialogue and offer our support to many different student religious organizations and also connect people to a variety of nearby faith communities.
The MOSAIC Interfaith House is a residential space for students who are interested in deepening their knowledge and experience of various religions, spiritualities and secular traditions. We focus actively on the belief that people with radically different assumptions about such things as meaning of life, death, and ritual practices can live and grow together under one roof. Residents will have an expressed commitment to living in a space that encourages genuine sharing and learning from the experiences of religion and spirituality of other residents.
Feminists’ Resource Center
The Feminists’ Resource Center, located in Chellis House, is an informational, educational, and cultural resource for the Middlebury community to engage with concepts and issues related to gender and sexuality. The center houses a library, provides a space for group meetings, and supports several student advocacy organizations, including Queers and Allies (Q&A), Feminist Action at Middlebury (FAM), It Happens Here, Stop Traffic, and the Sister-to-Sister and Brother-to-Brother Programs.
Anderson Freeman Resource Center
The Anderson Freeman Resource Center provides advocacy, programs, resources, and support for students who have been historically underrepresented or marginalized in U.S. higher education, including students of color, first-generation students, students from low-income backgrounds, and LGBTQ+ students.
Middlebury Intercultural Leaders Coalition
The Middlebury Intercultural Leaders Coalition (MILC) is a cultural org cluster. They work with the Anderson Freeman Resource Center to facilitate communication and cooperation between student cultural organizations and to offer programming to the campus community.
PALANA Intercultural House
PALANA provides a vibrant and collaborative space and community to acknowledge and celebrate diversity and people of all identity groups. They are committed to working with the wider Middlebury community and advocating for social change both on and off campus. Residency is open to any and all students in their sophomore, junior or senior year.
First-Gen Experience Program
The First-Gen Experience welcomes and supports students who are the first in their families to attend a four-year college. The program is designed to guide the academic and social transition and foster retention to the sophomore year and graduation. As part of the First-Gen Experience, First@Midd is a four-day pre-orientation program for incoming students.
Gender-Inclusive and ADA-Accessible Restrooms
There are many single-occupancy, gender-inclusive restrooms on campus, as well as a few multiple-occupancy gender-inclusive restrooms. This spreadsheet provides a list of both gender-inclusive and ADA-accessible restrooms.
