Credits and Refunds for Room and Board
| by David Provost
Dear Students and Families,
I write with a follow-up to the announcement that Middlebury courses will be taught remotely for the rest of the semester. We know that many of you are eager to learn about our policy regarding credits and refunds for room and board. Thank you for your patience as we have worked through a host of issues related to COVID-19. Below is information about the policy for students at the College and students of the Middlebury Schools Abroad.
Credit Balance Options
Middlebury has committed to continuing to pay wages for our faculty and staff through the semester, even as we refund nearly $9 million to our students and their families for unused room and board. We will automatically place a credit on all student accounts beginning Monday, April 6. You can apply the credit to future charges or request a refund.
To make your selection, all students (including seniors), parents, or authorized payers must complete this online form.
Students, parents, or authorized payers who wish to make a tax-deductible donation to Middlebury of the credit amount should please contact Jami Black at jlblack@middlebury.edu for guidance.
Details about the credits are below.
College Room and Board Credits
All students who left the Middlebury campus will receive a credit on their student account for an unused portion of their room and board charge (housing and meals). The room and board charge is prorated and based on a family’s contribution toward the cost of attending Middlebury. The minimum credit will be $1,000, and the maximum credit will be $4,380.
Students who were approved to remain on campus have housing and meals provided to them, and therefore they will not receive a credit for the room and board charge.
If you have an outstanding balance on your account, please be aware that the credit will first be applied to that balance.
Middlebury Schools Abroad Credits
Middlebury Schools Abroad students have been receiving credit information based on their specific programs and individual situations. These credits will be applied to student accounts on a rolling basis according to a schedule established by the Schools Abroad. For more information, please contact the assistant director of your School Abroad at our office in Vermont, or contact the International Programs office at internationalprograms@middlebury.edu.
If you have questions about your student account, please contact Student Financial Services at bursar@middlebury.edu.
These are extraordinary times. Thank you for all that you do to support Middlebury and please know how much it is appreciated.
Sincerely,
David Provost
