Summer 2021 Resources at The Scott Center

For those who are interested in religious observance, we maintain a comprehensive list of congregations within various faith traditions.

Some Language School Faculty are hosting Islamic Friday services (Jumma) on campus. The location has been changed to Mitchell Green Lounge in the McCullough Student Center. Please note: We will meet at 1:30 pm on Friday, August 13.  If you would like to join students for Eid observances in Burlington on Tuesday, July 20th, contact hamzavohra2407@gmail.com.

The co-presidents of the Muslim Student Association Board are Abed Abbas abdulrahmana@middlebury.edu and Younness Cheboubi ycheboubi@middlebury.edu. They are on campus and will be helpful resources this summer.

To gain access to the Islamic Prayer Room, please email Solon Coburn of Facilities (solonc@middlebury.edu) with your college ID#. If he is unavailable, please contact Public Safety with the same information: publicsafety@middlebury.edu.

The Chaplain’s Office can be a resource and mediator for Jumma services if questions or concerns arise. Feel free to contact Chaplain Saifa Hussain (sthussain@middlebury.edu). For other options, please see the The Islamic Society of Vermont, located in Burlington.

Friday evening student-led Shabbat services are held in the Jewish Center in the Freeman International Center, starting in late June.

  • Kabbalat Shabbat: Fridays, 7:45 pm, Jewish Center in the FIC
  • Shabbat Morning Service: Saturdays, 10 am, Jewish Center in the FIC

If interested, please contact Ayelet Hakim, Bilingual at the School of Hebrew, at ayelethakim@gmail.com.

Christian worship is available at various congregations in the Middlebury area. We suggest you call ahead to check on summer worship schedules.

The chaplains at The Scott Center for Spiritual and Religious Life are available for confidential chaplaincy care throughout the summer (and all year) to Middlebury students, faculty and staff, regardless of religious affiliation.  Please see our On-Call Schedule for after-hours and weekend contacts.

Confidential resources such as pastoral care and religious observances are exempt from the language pledge.

Please email for an appointment with any Scott Center staff member.  Contact Ellen McKay, Scott Center Program Coordinator at (802) 443-5626 or emckay@middlebury.edu.
