The winter term curriculum consists of both departmental and interdepartmental courses. Students enroll in only one course; faculty members teach only one course. Many seniors use winter term for independent work such as a senior thesis or essay. Students may also use winter term for internships or independent projects off campus. Tenure-track faculty members are normally expected to teach three out of five Winter Terms between academic leaves; term appointments are generally required to teach each Winter Term. The Curriculum Committee, chaired by Dean of Curriculum Bob Cluss, has overall responsibility for the winter term academic program. General questions about winter term should be directed to Janis Audet (x2207). New faculty are encouraged to discuss possible Winter Term course proposals with department colleagues, their Chair, or Dean Cluss if they are uncertain about what might constitute a successful Winter Term course.
