In order to provide assistance in finding appropriate work for spouses of new faculty members, Middlebury College is a member of two organizations that will provide assistance in this area. The Academic Career Network serves member institutions throughout western and southern New England and eastern New York by providing career-related support for faculty spouses and partners who seek teaching, research or administrative positions at colleges and universities within the Network region.
Middlebury is also a member of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC), an organization established in 2000 with offices in several areas of the country. It's goal is to provide "a collaborative response of higher education institutions throughout the United States to the many challenges of academic recruitment and retention. Of particular interest to HERC is finding effective ways of assisting the spouses and partners of faculty and staff to secure area employment and encouraging diversity at member institutions."
