Studio Art Majors
A brief introduction to a handful of our studio art majors...
Alix Bickson (Class of 2015) Alix Bickson, a junior from New York and India, is a joint major in studio art and English. At Middlebury, Alix is a member of the female a cappella group - Middlebury Mischords; she is a peer-writing tutor and a first-year seminar mentor. Alix experiments with a lot of different mediums digital photography, oil paint, charcoal and pastel illustrations, as well as creative writing. Alix recently interned at Leading Hotels of the World and was an intern at Goldstein and Lee, P.C.
Spencer Brown (Class of 2014) Spencer Brown, a senior from Oxford, NY, is a studio art major and a math minor. He came to Middlebury with no intention of being an art major, or even taking an art class for that matter. Spencer was a math major until his sophomore spring when he took his first studio art class on a whim and loved it! He declared studio art soon after that. Jane McCabe (Class of 2015) Jane McCabe, a junior from Middlebury, VT, is a double major in architectural studies and studio art. Jane studied abroad in Madrid, Spain during her junior year and participated in MIDD Core, Sierra Nevada. She put her sculpture skills to work while building architectural models during her internship at Vermont Integrated Architecture. She is also a member of the a cappella group - the Middlebury Mischords.
Maisie Ogata (Class of 2014) Maisie Ogata, a senior from Chicago, IL, is a studio art major with an art history minor. This past summer she studied at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. Maisie's preferred medium is performance art. One of her favorite courses at Middlebury has been Independent Studio where she had the freedom to create her own performance exhibition.
Dylan Redford (Class of 2014.5) Dylan Redford, a senior feb from Fairfax, CA, is a joint major in film and studio art. "I make videos in my head. These videos are my memories and my fantasies. I can't tell them apart. My videos are about my deepest insecurities. I want to be honest with you. So I put them on the internet." ~Dylan. Kate Robinson (Class of 2016) Kate Robinson, a sophomore from Middlebury, VT, is studio art major with a minor in global health. She is interested in photography, drawing, and mixed media projects, but works mostly in design. Kate co-founded Flux, a blog dedicated to creative students on the Middlebury Campus, and is also involved with the Programs on Creativity and Innovation, as well as the Middlebury Center for Social Entrepreneurship. She currently interns for a Midd alum at a small graphic design start up in Burlington.
Robbie Seltzer (Class of 2015) Robbie Seltzer, a junior from Minneapolis, MN, is a joint major in geography and art. Robbie works for the theater department as a theater technician and is the mechanic for the bike shop on campus. His favorite course was Sculpture I with Sanford Mirling.
Alexandria Silberkleit (Class of 2015) Alexandria Silberkleit, a junior from New York, is a studio art major and biology minor. Over J-term, Alexandria participated in an independent photo project in South Africa where she documented her road trip through the Eastern Cape. Some of her favorite courses at Midd have included Living World in Ceramics with Jim Butler and her independent studio course with Sanford Mirling. Aside from art, Alexandria runs the Center Gallery space in McCullough and art at 51 Main. She is a woodshop monitor and member of the Arts Council. Recently, Alexandria interned for Stefan Beckman, a set designer for many fashion shoots and runway shows. They worked on the Marc Jacobs runway show as well as ads for MAC Cosmetics, Vogue, Elle Magazine, etc.
Chloe Wilwerding (Class of 2015) Chloe Wilwerding, a junior from Omaha, NE, is a double major in studio art and political science. Chloe studied abroad in the Czech Republic with the SIT Program: Arts and Social Change. Her favorite medium to work with is intaglio printmaking. Chloe is also a member of the swim team, works in the CTLR as a peer writing tutor, is a freshmen seminar mentor, and is active in Newman Club.
Samantha Wood (Class of 2015) Samantha Wood, a junior from Los Angeles, CA, is a double major in studio art and art history. Samantha works in the mail room and is a member of the club water polo team. She really enjoyed her advanced drawing and independent studio class; both allowed her to explore new facets of her creative process. Samantha interned at the J Paul Getty Center this summer in their museum’s decorative arts and sculpture conservation lab.
