Orchestra This Week

Welcome to our potential new members of the College Orchestra! It was so great to meet you all at the Activities Fair on Friday, and I really do hope you'll be able to join us for rehearsals this week.

Here's what's going on:

On Tuesday, September 20th from 7-9 pm in the CFA Concert Hall, we will have our second informal rehearsal. We'll play through some more music and do some introductions again -- I am hoping to see some new faces! All you'll need is your instrument and the will to play :)

Then, on Thursday, September 22nd from 7-9 pm in the CFA (probably in a few of the open practice rooms) we will have sectionals and auditions for new members. Keep in mind that these auditions are low-stress and just to get an idea of where you'll be seated in the group. Everyone makes it in! Andrew, our wonderful conductor, and one of the orchestra chairs will listen to you play some excerpts from Eroica as well as whatever you feel comfortable playing. Again, zero stress, I promise!

For those of you who do not have instruments here in Middlebury, and would like to rent instruments while you are here, we have an arrangement with Ellis Music just over the mountain;   ellismusic.com     To rent an instrument, contact them directly, the web site is excellent, and make your own arrangement. Ellis Music will then deliver instruments to the Music Department, or pick them up again, on Fridays.

This will be a private arrangement between you and Ellis Music.

The College does have some instruments available for students to use. We do not have string instruments, but we have a variety of wind instruments. If you are approved to borrow one of these, you must sign a form with Anne Chabot.
