Deadline: May 1, 2009

Financial aid decisions are made for returning undergraduates after the first-year student application process is essentially completed, beginning in the spring.  Once you have submitted your application, we will send you a letter as soon as possible to request additional materials if necessary. If your aid application is completed in full by May 1, you will be notified of your aid decision after June 1.

Listed below are all the documents that could be required to apply for aid. Not everyone will have to submit all documents; only those relevant to you should be completed.

US and Canadian Applicants

2009-2010 CSS PROFILE Form, available online at http://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp. Middlebury’s PROFILE code is 3526.

US citizens must also submit the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Middlebury’s FAFSA code is 003691

Required if applicable:

If your biological parents are divorced or separated, your noncustodial parent must go to https://ncprofile.collegeboard.com to complete the Noncustodial Parent Profile.

If student, parents, or other children are beneficiaries of an estate or trust, please provide the value, the terms and distribution information.

For the 2009-2010 year, the financial aid process has changed. Instead of tax information being sent to Middlebury directly, we will use the CSS IDOC service.

The IDOC process

After you have submitted the CSS Profile application, you will receive instructions from the College Board IDOC Service with a link to the IDOC web site to print your cover sheet and requirements document.  You should mail the tax information to the College Board along with the completed and signed IDOC Cover Sheet.  When the College Board receives your documents, they will electronically image and transmit your tax return statements to Middlebury Student Financial Services.

Tax returns

Your parent's (biological/ stepparent) 2008 signed Federal tax return should be submitted directly to the College Board's IDOC service.  You need to include all schedules and  W-2's.

Your (student) 2008 Federal tax return should be submitted to College Board via the IDOC service, as well.

The noncustodial parent tax return (all schedules and W-2's)  for 2008 should be submitted to College Board via the IDOC service.  It is important that the IDOC Cover Sheet accompany the tax return.

Business and  Farm tax information

If either parent or stepparent is self-employed or owns an interest of 10% or more in a corporation or partnership, they must complete a Business/Farm Supplement and submit to College Board via the IDOC service.

2008 tax returns for Corporations and Partnerships should be submitted via the IDOC Service. Include all schedules and the K-1.  Ownership of less than 10% will require only the K-1.

IDOC Cover Sheet

The College Board will not process any information without an IDOC Cover Sheet.  Beginning in February, you can print a duplicate IDOC Cover Sheet from the College Board's website.

Confidentiality

Just as if you submitted the returns directly to Middlebury Student Financial Services, the confidentiality of your information is ensured.  The College Board will electronically store your information in a secure environment and the paper copies will not be retained.

Canadian applicants

The 2008 federal and provincial tax returns and T4's should be submitted to College Board via the IDOC process.

Other forms (if applicable)

If either parent or student did not file a tax return for 2008, please submit a Nonfiling statement.  This can be sent in the packet to College Board via the IDOC service.

A letter of special circumstances can be submitted with the IDOC packet to College Board.

A Consortium Agreement is also required if the student will be studying abroad at a Non-Middlebury program. Much of this form needs to be completed by the institution through which you will be studying. The Agreement may then be sent to Middlebury directly.

International applicants

2009-2010 International Student Financial Aid Application
or the College Board International Financial Aid Application.

Required if appropriate:

If your parents have different jobs or their income changed significantly since last year, we require statements in English from each parent's employer, listing gross income and benefits received January – December 2008.

If your biological parents are divorced or separated, your noncustodial parent must complete the Noncustodial Parent's Statement.

A Consortium Agreement if the student will be studying abroad at a Non-Middlebury program.
