Living in Beer-Sheva has allowed me to experience firsthand, the complexity of Israeli society. Although it is not a city that is on the typical tourist agenda, it offers valuable insight into authentic Israeli culture. Situated in the heart of the Negev desert, Beer-Sheva is a magnifying glass into what defines Israel. Here you can feel the resource scarcity, the proximity to borders, and the religious variance, but within these elements prevails the vibrant culture that makes Israel such a special place, and Beer-Sheva is an unmatched environment to learn the language. People that I met here were always excited to hear that I was studying Hebrew and were eager and enthusiastic to converse. They would frequently open their home to me for Shabbat dinner, invite me on a hike, and would each make it their mission to show me the way of Israel.
