I’m writing with an update to previous messages we’ve sent to members of the Middlebury community regarding the coronavirus. The health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff are our paramount concern, and we’ll keep providing support as well as timely information as situations continue to unfold.

I wanted to reach out to all of you with information related to the coronavirus situation. Some of you may already have received country-specific information from your on-site program staff. I know this is the case for those of you enrolled in some of Middlebury’s Schools Abroad. I write to ask all of you to follow the advice you’re receiving both from your on-site staff as well as from local emergency officials.

The College has decided it will not support any faculty, staff, or student travel to China through the end of summer 2020.
The Middlebury School of the Environment (SOE), located in China, has suspended its 2020 session due to the impact of the coronavirus.

Currently, there is a CDC Level 3 warning (avoid nonessential travel) for Hubei Province, China. Travel in and out of Wuhan and surrounding cities is restricted. Other cities in China have seen cases of the coronavirus, though in smaller numbers, and at this point haven’t implemented any travel restrictions.
