    Coronavirus and Employee Travel

    | by Karen Miller and Mark Peluso

We are writing with an update to previous messages regarding coronavirus. As you know, the global situation is dynamic. Over the weekend, the State Department issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory for Italy, meaning all nonessential travel should be avoided. As we communicated on February 20, Middlebury will not support faculty, staff, or student travel to areas that have a Level 3 Travel Advisory, which now also includes China (Level 4), South Korea, and Iran (Level 4).

Middlebury School in China suspended for the spring

    | by Carlos Vélez

The CDC and State Department recently raised their risk advice to Level 3 (“avoid nonessential travel” and “reconsider travel”). Several colleges and universities and study abroad providers have suspended their programs and/or banned all travel to China. The list will likely expand rapidly within the next couple of days. Considering all this, as well as other factors, we have decided to suspend the School in China (all three sites) this spring.
