To select candidates with exceptional academic achievement, scholarly promise, and leadership potential for scholarships to Cambridge University, England.

Award

All Cambridge tuition fees, maintenance allowance for study-related activities, and one round-trip economy airfare.

Number Offered

The trust seeks to elect approximately 100 new scholars annually from many countries outside the UK. From the U.S.

Fields of Study

None specified; limited only by fields offered at Cambridge.

Eligibility

Seniors or recent college graduates from U.S. or any other country outside the United Kingdom, with “transcripts showing evidence of sustained academic achievement in study, and a strong performance in GRE scores, together with references which speak knowledgeably about the candidate’s academic performance and potential for scholarly growth.” GPA should be 3.7 or higher.

A Gates Cambridge Scholarship can only be taken up by a student who has been admitted to Cambridge through the University’s normal application procedures. These are separate from the selection procedures for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Applicants for a Master’s or Doctoral study are admitted to Cambridge through the Board of Graduate studies; those applying for a second Bachelor’s degree are admitted by a College.

Final deadline is October (Cambridge University); external deadlines are also listed on program websites.

This fellowship does not require institutional nomination. However, we ask students to let us know if they intend to apply.
