Goldwater Scholarship
Purpose
To provide a continuing source of highly qualified individuals for academic study and research in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering by awarding scholarships to outstanding sophomores and juniors who demonstrate interest in related fields.

Award
The stipend covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 annually, independent of need. Maximum two years for juniors; one year for seniors.

Up to 250
Eligibility
Students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or U.S. nationals, sophomores and juniors, and having a 3.0 or better GPA are eligible to apply. Most competitive applicants have GPAs of 3.7 or higher.
Note: Students who plan to pursue an MD are not eligible. Students who plan to pursue an MD/PhD may be eligible if they plan to pursue a research career.
Deadlines
Nomination application deadline is noon on November 10. The Goldwater final deadline is in January.
Application Process
To apply, you must be nominated by Middlebury. Middlebury can nominate up to four candidates.
To apply for nomination, interested candidates must do the following:
- Complete the fellowship registration, Goldwater application section, and recommendation request for two faculty in Midd Apply.
Nomination Application Questions
- Complete the student profile and preliminary Goldwater application. Once the fellowship advisor approves this, you can proceed to the Goldwater application. Please complete the full application. For the research essay upload just provide a two paragraph statement about your research essay topic. See https://goldwater.scholarsapply.org to access the Goldwater online portal.
We recommend submitting the Midd Apply and Goldwater Preliminary Application by Oct.15 to allow time to time to complete the full application.
If you are nominated, you will revise with the fellowships advisor to prepare the full Goldwater application for submission deadline in January.
