Musical Theatre Auditions: Falsettos

Middlebury College students are invited to audition for the spring production of Falsettos, to be performed April 20-22, 2005 at the Center for the Arts. Winner of the 1992 Tony awards for best book and score of a musical, Falsettos will be produced at Middlebury by the Department of Music.  Douglas Anderson directs. Auditioners should prepare a number from any musical, and bring sheet music if available.  CDs of Falsettos are available in the Music Library.  Available roles include three men, three women, and one boy (age 10-14).  Callbacks will be held Sunday, December 5 from 11:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M.

In Security: an evening of provocative scenes

Theatre major Parker Diggory's senior work in acting.  By addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and experience, In Security questions how easily "right" and "wrong" can be assigned in such a conflict by looking at individual lives from perspectives both real and surreal. Dancing Now: The Fall Dance Concert featuring Šara Stranovsky '05

The Newcomer's Piece,
choreographed by Ellen Smith '05, and dances developed by students in The Place of Dancecourse make up the first half of this annual fall event. In the second portion, Šara Stranovsky '05 explores questions of identity and self-expression through movement, text, and vocal work. Known for her powerful performances with the Dance Company of Middlebury and as a singer with the Sharipoons Funk Brigade, Šara weaves her own poetry into this sensitive inquiry into human nature. Festival of Wreaths

This annual holiday celebration features the display and auction of over 150 wreaths decorated by local businesses and individuals with merchandise, gift certificates, and holiday decorations. The day also includes musical performances and a raffle. Proceeds benefit the Mary Johnson Children's Center.

In this award-winning animated feature, Madame Souza sets off to rescue her grandson from kidnappers. An epic adventure takes them to the headquarters of the notorious French mafia, Belleville, where they meet the Triplets, a jazz combo of three batty old women who join in the quest. The program includes William Byrd's O magnum mysterium; works by Bach, Praetorius, Lauridsen, and Whitacre; as well as humorous renditions of "The Wassail Song," "Jingle Bells," and "The 12 Days of Christmas." Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud was appointed artist-in-residence at the 2004 Bergen International Festival. He has performed in major recital series in San Francisco, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Wigmore Hall in London.
