Latin American Graphics:
The Evolution of Identity from the Mythical to the Personal
Through August 14, Center for the Arts, Middlebury College Museum of Art
Showcasing the work of 49 artists, this exhibition surveys the evolution of modern and contemporary Latin American printmaking from the mid-20th century to the present. Organized by Colombian artist, curator, and architect Felix Angel for the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, California, the exhibition surveys works that seek to define national identity and explore global issues of heritage and hybridization. Representing Nicaragua, Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru, among other countries, the artists included demonstrate a wide range of influences and technical practices. Texts and labels in the exhibition are written in both Spanish and English. "Latin American Graphics: The Evolution of Identity from the Mythical to the Personal" is organized by the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, and is circulated by Curatorial Assistance Traveling Exhibitions (CATE), Los Angeles.
