Attic red- and black-figure vases, a Roman marble sarcophagus, and an extraordinary 14th-century French ivory are among the highlights of this ongoing exhibit, which also includes an Asian Object of the Month display designed to feature recent acquisitions in Asian art.

An exhibition of artworks requested by faculty for use in their teaching of Western painting, sculpture, and photography. Highlights of the College's permanent collection of European and American works from the Renaissance through the 19th century are always on view. Free admission

Annual Pre-Semester Dance Workshop:
Guest Artist Suki John And La Técnica Cubana
Dancer, choreographer, and dance writer, Suki John joins us for our annual intensive workshop, this year featuring the dance of Cuba. During morning sessions, Suki will teach la técnica Cubana, the modern dance technique developed after the Cuban Revolution to be a uniquely Cuban form—vibrant, athletic and richly expressive. In the afternoons, she will collaborate with participants on new choreography. She will also give a talk on Thursday evening, Cuban Dance: from Orishas to Swans, and offer an entry-level salsa class on Friday evening as part of orientation for entering students. Come join us for this wonderful experience of Cuban dance. Pre-register for classes at 802-443-5874. All events are free.

This exhibition of approximately 35 bronzes includes casts of St. John the Baptist, Balzac, The Thinker, and many other well-known works. Letters, quotations, and biographies of Rodin provide a rare view into his life and highlight his influence on the artistic values of his day. This exhibition has been organized and made possible by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation. Free admission

Vermont in 1904: A Photographic Portrait

The photographs in this exhibit, all taken by an amateur photographer from Barre at a time when Vermont was undergoing significant social and physical change, document the state's entry into the 20th century. Marissa L. Williamson '05 and Diana S. Harya '04 curated the exhibit, with help from students enrolled in the spring 2003 course Art Museums: Theory and Practice. Free admission

Auditions For Fall Dance Projects

Are you interested in performing in a dance piece this fall? Open auditions will be held for fall projects including the 6th annual Newcomer's Piece directed by Ellen Smith '05. Open to dancers who have not yet performed in a Dance program-sponsored concert, the Newcomer's Piece offers a first-hand experience of rehearsal and performance here at Middlebury. First year students are especially encouraged to audition. Dancers must attend two technique classes per week to be eligible to perform.

In this black comedy set in the Green Mountains, a dysfunctional family has come to rest in a log cabin, launching philosophical riffs on existentialism, political intrigue, romance, evangelical religion, and the hovering ghost of the family's recently deceased mother.
