50 x 50: Collecting for the Middlebury College Museum of Art

Middlebury College Museum of Art, Christian A. Johnson Memorial Gallery

Fifty years ago Middlebury began the formal process of acquiring art for its permanent collection. This exhibit marks that anniversary by bringing together one work from each year. Included are paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and photography, from antiquity to the present and from diverse cultures around the world. Museum hours>>

Spencer Prize in Oratory: Grand Championship

Champions from Atwater, Brainerd, Cook, Ross, and Wonnacott Commons square off in the annual Spencer Prize in Oratory for first-year students. Named in honor of professor emeritus and former trustee John Spencer, this annual speaking competition awards $1,500 in prizes, including a $500 top prize. Produced by Oratory Now. Free

Five-time Grammy Award nominee and Steinway artist Christian Sands is an emerging jazz force to be reckoned with. Ragamala Dance Company: Sacred Earth

Mahaney Center for the Arts, Dance Theatre

Inspired by the philosophies behind the ephemeral arts of Kolam and Warli painting and the Tamil Sangam literature of India, Sacred Earth is Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy’s singular vision of the beautiful, fragile relationship between nature and man. Ragamala’s dancers perform with live music to create a sacred space honoring the divinity in the natural world and the sustenance we derive from it. A Performing Arts Series event.  Tickets: $22 Public/$16 Midd ID holder/$10 Youth/$6 Midd students.  On sale to PASS members 9/6, ID holders 9/13, general public 9/17.
